I submitted a few short pieces I had written for a non-profit's newsletter (a place where I previously worked). But I'd agree that your travel stories are superb!

Just a suggestion, as I've never had to do this either, but I would see if I could find any examples of the type of writing the company uses. Then I would do a clean, concise version of it. But, Aunt Snow, any of your travel pieces or anything you've written about LA would show them how awesome you are.ALBUG
do they mean 'hand writing' sample or writing sample? I would say the thing you have most passion about if it is writing ... Patricia
Usually something you've written in a previous job -- in my case: newsletters, solicitation letters, annual reports, etc. More recently: Blog posts and newspaper articles.
I submitted a report that I'd helped prepare as part of an investigation. Very dry, very businesslike. It would have been inappropriate to submit a haiku.
